More London antics – this time the Harry Potter Platform 9 and 3/4 shop that opened in December 2012. I was ridiculously excited about this. I’m not usually the kind of girl that lines up to be photographed in front of a bunch of tourists but I was over there like a shot. I think I may even have ran. What scarf did I want? Gryffindor obviously. The two guys dressed up like station guard taking photos and keeping over excited tourists under control were lovely and absolutely hilarious. Read More
I got the BEST email last night – I have officially been offered a place in Auld Reekie Roller Girls Fresh Meat programme. Fresh Meat is the extensive training programme that all new skaters need to undergo, it lasts 16 weeks and at the end I’ll be assessed on a whole range of skating techniques, hits and falls. I am actually THRILLED, so naturally celebrated by skating up and down hall and playing with fonts.
Another of my latest obsessions, is roller derby. If you live in/around Edinburgh, I highly recommend you get yourself along to the next bout which is on 19 January at Meadowbank. A great fun, fast paced full contact sport, I love how Scotland on Sunday describe it, it’s pretty apt:
It’s a hug disguised as a rib-splintering thump
I first heard about Roller Derby a few years back, when I noticed, via facebook, that a couple of my old flatmates were skating, Kat [Pixel Junkie] used to skate with ARRG [Auld Reekie Roller Girls] and Jen [Hitty Longstockings] skates with SWAT [South West Angels of Terror]. Then, back in July whilst off work with a dislocated knee, I watched Whip It. Maybe it was the fact that I could barely walk and was navigating the house using a desk chair as a kind of zimmer, but I totally got the urge that I wanted to skate. Read More

Just bought this beauty from my fonts. Yes, I look at fonts for fun, and would much rather buy a font than a dress. Hands down.
Trend is, despite the above declaration, hipster as hell. It’s like the lovechild of Gotham and Neutraface, two of my absolute favourites and comes in a huge selection of weights – sans, shaded, inline, shadow and a lovely contrasting slab. I’m also delighted to see that there is a huge selection of quirky ornaments. Plus, look at that ‘R’, cheeky or what?
All in all 20 weights plus ornaments and webfont for £17.50 is amazing. Buy it here, it’s on sale (a whopping $140 off) until February 18th. Both images from myfonts.
Everybody loves a LOLcat right? I’m delighted to be part of LOLcat: Teh Exhibishun a fabulous exhibition celebrating the world of internet LOLcats. I’ll be jointly exhibiting with Glasgow based writer Kirsty Logan, whose poem Sestina to my Lolling Cat I have typeset and illustrated.
For as long as I can remember, my resolutions have always been to stop biting my nails and go swimming (regularly). I keep neither. I’m not really a believer in New Year resolutions, which is probably down to my inability to stick to them. I am, however, very much a believer in trying to improve yourself and in doing/attempting new things. There’s that saying that ‘If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always got’, so off the back of that affirmation, attributed to Henry Ford that I probably saw on Pinterest, I have decided to embrace Doing Scary Things.
